2018-2019 Officers
President: Angela Kraft
About Angie: I am currently a graduate student in the math program. My research interests lie in the field of computational group theory, focusing on computing basic algebras of central extensions of finite simple groups. One is often interested in studying representations of a finite group, but for large dimensional representations, the computations can often become too expensive. Fortunately, there is a link between representations of a finite group and modules over a relatively small algebra, called a basic algebra. In this way, an unwieldy problem can be turned into a computationally feasible problem.
Vice President: Hannah Biegel
About Hannah: I am currently a 3rd year graduate student in the math program. My research area is mathematical biology with an emphasis in disease dynamics and epidemiology. I am currently studying the spread of seasonal influenza in the United States. In particular, I use data assimilation methods to predict the course of the flu season near the onset.

Secretary: Fany Salazar
About Fany: I am currently a 2nd year graduate student in the math program. My research area is mathematics education with an emphasis in equity. I have been working as a research assistant in the project Let’s Talk About Math: Parents and Teachers Talking and Doing Mathematics Together. In particular, I facilitate mathematics workshops for the parents in the project with a focus on their children mathematics education, I do interview, and I analyze data obtained.
Treasurer: Brian Bell
About Brian: I am currently a first year graduate student in the applied math program. My main interest is in the theoretical foundations of Data Science. I have been working as a research assistant under the Tripods project on understanding the mechanics of certain widely used machine learning techniques (like t-SNE and deep/convolutional neural networks).=
