Sonia Kovalevsky Day

Sonia Kovalevsky was a 19th century Russian mathematician who made many contributions to the field of math. As the first woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics, she was a pioneer for women in math. In honor of her achievements and in order to encourage young women in to continue their studies of mathematics, Sonia Kovalevsky Days (SK Days) have been organized and sponsored by various AWM chapters. SK Days at the University of Arizona generally consist of various mathematical workshops and talks for female high school and middle school students.
